Fresh off the success of our Canvas House design for their spring product showcase, Canadian Tire enlisted us once again to create the setting for their Christmas product showcase.  That meant completely transforming our summer-themed House using the existing architectural elements in a refreshed way.

Our concept was a fantastical winter wonderland where ornaments, décor, lighting, Christmas trees and key furniture pieces were displayed in an abstract and playful way that embodied the spirit of the season in both traditional and whimsical ways.  To realize our vision, we brought in our same trusted team of collaborators from the film community.

Upon entering the environment, guests were met with a giant custom-built ornament surrounded by an assortment of trees, lights and decorations.  The surrounding space was sectioned into different settings.  Some were themed to a specific colour scheme to highlight the corresponding merchandise, including alpine white, golds, silvers, blue and fluorescents.  A poolside area from the spring showcase was transformed into an ice fishing scene.

A former Toronto rooftop scene became a cozy Whistler loft decked in red, black and plaid; a home office became a gift wrapping room, and a living area was turned into a celebratory Christmas dinner scene.

When visitors exited the house they emerged into a magical snowy forest decked with upside down and right side up Christmas trees.  The outdoor lighting area featured strings of bulbs displayed Clark Griswald-style on the house’s exterior, which also replicated the house in Canadian Tire’s popular NOMA Arctic Test TV spot.

In the end, our client was amazed with the transformation of the space, which had been rendered virtually unrecognizable from the former spring/summer design.  The environment not only effectively displayed their product in an inspired and unexpected way but also became an ideal location for hosting media, partners and VIPs.
